RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By Richard24738, 3 weeks ago

@webcmg Yes, the Ovo tariff certainly looks attractive. Unfortunately, Ovo are not accepting Mitsubishi Ecodans at this time. I am on their waiting list. As mentioned, the cosy tariff really needs a ...
RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By webcmg, 3 weeks ago

I do need to track what the peak usage is outside of Cosy slots in order to determine what the smallest battery I could get away with is... that would reduce the investment cost and minimise the break...
RE: Sanity check please. Battery storage and inverter sizing.

By Old_Scientist, 3 weeks ago

OK, so if it were a Tesla Powerwall I'd be presenting arguments to the DNO for the full 11.04kWh inverter rating for the battery, keeping the solar on the existing inverter and AC coupled, with no add...
RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By Richard24738, 3 weeks ago

@old_scientist Thanks for the reply. Both myself and my wife are retired and do not like to be cold so having a set back temperature during the expensive 4pm to 7pm period is not attractive, although ...
RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By webcmg, 3 weeks ago

@toodles I'm not 100% sure about that, I was considering a Fogstar 32kwh battery + inverter. I think this coupled with Cosy would likely reduce all our electricity use to 12.29p, but the ASHP saving o...
RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By webcmg, 3 weeks ago

@richard24738 as we do not have batteries or solar, I'm sticking with OVO extended fixed 13 month plan to Nove 2026 with their free Heat Pump Plus add-on (type of use tariff). The fixed tariff is 23.8...
Toodles RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By Toodles, 3 weeks ago

@old_scientist Although Cosy is (presumably) aimed at heat pump owners, I think the tariff really offers the most efficient utilisation to those who have the means (battery) to suck up their day long ...
RE: Rodents! A word of warning for heat pump owners

By Tim441, 3 weeks ago

ChatGPT comments: Yes – unfortunately, vermin can sometimes get inside an air source heat pump (ASHP). The unit is outdoors, draws in air, and has plenty of warm sheltered spaces that ca...
RE: Sanity check please. Battery storage and inverter sizing.

@old_scientist mainly just add a battery so I can make the heat pump equation work when argued against a gas boiler. How does the gov expect people to green there heating and house use if they are put...
RE: Balancing financial efficiency and comfort using the Octopus Cosy tariff

By Old_Scientist, 3 weeks ago

We ran on Cosy last winter and we switched off during the peak (4-7pm) and set back over night as the house gets too hot if running constantly, even on minimum due to oversized heat pump. For referenc...
RE: Why so many sigenergi installer recommendations?

By SAEnergy, 3 weeks ago

It’s a really simple answer, GivEnergy. Installers and the market place got really used to the bargain that was GivEnergy. It’s all gone a bit sour with the support being so terrible and the attit...
RE: Rodents! A word of warning for heat pump owners

Attachment : 20250824_120303.jpg @editor I opened up again to take pics.. and prevent further attack. Absurd design with such big hole? I'd already hoovered out .... I couldn't find snips for the ...
