Battle of the charging technologies
Also, @ianmk13, are you using this integration yourself? If so, how are you finding it?

@majordennisbloodnok I'm quite new to Home Assistant and have done very little with the Zappi Integration other than logging the grid voltage and providing a notification if the Zappi stops recording consumption, which it has on a couple of occasions. I don't use my MG4 much so rarely need to charge it, so there is no need to leave plugged in all the time and looking for cheap Agile slots.
Taking a quick look now, there are many sensors to monitor various attributes and there are controls for 'Minimum Green Level' and charging mode. There is no way to program a charging schedule, but why would one want to do that with Home Assistant available? I believe there may be APIs for connecting to the Myenergi cloud, too.
Thanks for that, @ianmk13. Although you've still a bit of a learning curve ahead of you what you've given so far is really useful.
What you said about programming of charging schedules is spot on for us; why would we need something particularly smart if we've a home system to do the smart stuff anyway.

Really !?
And I haven't got my PV, battery or ASHP yet 😐
I've got my intruder alarm on-board now (with a couple of hardware sensors still to add). I really must look into Python, too. I rely on Excel for data manipulation and graphical representation but I hear that Python may help.

I think we need to consider the charging schedule against a wider range of inputs than those commonly used within HA.
The present EV Charging legislation is also 'ignorant' of the required inputs, but is still the law, despite conflicting with HMGs own Direction Paper on Delivering a Smart & Secure Electricity System.
As we seek to move towards Net Zero, the following inputs need to be considered:
- available generation from renewable sources in my area in the next hour. It's better to store the energy locally than funding massive grid upgrades to export it elsewhere.
- amount of energy my own house will require in the next 24hrs, after subtracting what my own PV panels will generate
- phase imbalance in the transformer of my local substation. A home-based charger is most likely to be single-phase and will itself cause losses due to phase imbalance. But if 'my' phase is presently exhibiting too small a loading factor, then my charger could usefully be turned on to reduce those losses.
I have deliberately avoided any 'costs per kWh' in the above.
Whatever DESNZ and Ofgem think, the future for flexible pricing models should follow the science, rather than being used to drive consumers into particular time periods.
Save energy... recycle electrons!
