Is there any limit to the amount of times you can switch tariffs with Octopus during a year?
I don't imagine anyone would to use this tariff during the summer, but if you can switch between tariffs depending on the time of year I can see this being very attractive, particularly for those with battery storage which could be topped up to get you through the peak period.
@squeakysim off the top of my head there is no charge to swap away. But I think there is a minimum 90 days? I am with octopus so I can find out easily enough
I was looking at the Agile Octopus tariff. With underfloor heating it should be possible to get the slab nice and toasty during the cheap overnight period, which sometimes actually pays you as much as 5p/kWh to use power in the wee hours! Octopus Agile Southern England - Energy Stats UK (energy-stats.uk)
The only problem is you only know the prices a day ahead.
@brooster I think that's for fairly obvious reasons. That said, if you have batteries, there should be no need for Go over the summer anyway. I rarely charge anything into my batteries in the summer
Posted by: @broosterI’m also on Agile outgoing for surplus solar in summer and Go is not compatible with the outgoing tariff!!!
What are the allowable combinations with the outgoing tariff? Or is there a consensus that you're better off with Agile?
@squeakysim my understanding is that you cant have a cheap ToU tariff and outgoing e.g. you cant have Go or intelligent etc. As it would mean people could charge batteries for cheap and simply sell back to the grid at higher rates.
Just joined Cosy Octopus tariff. Live from 12 midnight.
We don't have solar or an EV.
Going to see how this goes, we were with shell energy price guarantee tariff before we swapped to octopus
These are our settings.
Going going to see if it saves us, we can change in 30 days if not. Annoying that the FTC can only set 4 temp changes I would've liked set backs rather than off, so freeze stat could still be enabled, so will have to keep an eye on weather if goes below 3c, as we don't have enough anti freeze in the system according to the Mitsubishi engineer who serviced our ashp.
Will monitor and feedback
@sand I found that if you use the app to set the timer, you can have unlimited(?) temperature changes. You can also change between WC/Auto Adapt/Flow rate which is very useful. For example, when electric is cheap you can switch to a high flow rate, then back to WC when its normal rate.
250sqm house. 30kWh Sunsynk/Pylontech battery system. 14kWp solar. Ecodan 14kW. BMW iX.
Thanks for that.
All thru the summer the timer worked in the app for us brilliantly, set to room temp.
Then we added a further remote in the autum and changed to WC and app timer stopped working and I don't understand why, it also doesn't work in auto adaption mode either.
We have normal WiFi and 5g and 2 tp link boosts and the melcloud app does say it needs a stable WiFi so could understand if it had never worked, no settings have been changed on theWiFi.
I'm hopefully moving to Cosy, just having compatibility issues with my export tariff apparently. I was moving to Eco7, but the recent cold snap highlighted that I would need way more battery capacity than I have currently and the cost would probably not make it worthwhile. So I'm really pleased that there is an option for two cheaper periods in the day to charge up the batteries. The expensive period is similar to the saving sessions that I recently took part in and they were very doable even when it was cold.
