"With the transmission pipeline currently oversubscribed at more than 560GW – three times what is
needed to meet Britain’s net zero goals – there is huge uncertainty around what substations need
building and where."

National Grid Electricity Transmission, Dec’24

Surely it is not beyond the capabilities of a government department to sit down with the relevant bodies to weed out the projects that are never going to get built, and then prioritise the rest in an order such that they do know what substations need building where and can make real progress towards rolling out that work at a national level. Or maybe I'm just an eternal optimist 😀

Samsung 12kW gen6 ASHP with 50L volumiser and all new large radiators. 7.2kWp solar (south facing), Tesla PW3 (13.5kW)
Solar generation completely offsets ASHP usage annually. We no longer burn ~1600L of kerosene annually.

After Rebel Energy went earlier this year.

Both small suppliers.

@allyfish None indeed! I feel that such companies may be being set up to make ‘a quick buck’ and lack the necessary financial backing or expertise required. Far too many people are getting their fingers burnt and of course, each failure results in a further burden on all our bills via increases in standing charges to make up the shortfall. Ho-Hum… ☹️ Toodles.

We privatised electricity (back in the 80s I think) so the government doesn't have direct control so far as I am aware.  Presumably with privatisation we also lost almost all public expertise to for-profit companies.

What goes around comes around.

4kW peak of solar PV since 2011; EV and a 1930s house which has been partially renovated to improve its efficiency. 7kW Vaillant heat pump.
