HIES and GivEnergy team up to protect consumers

HIES and GivEnergy have joined forces to assist consumers facing challenges due to their solar and battery installer’s inability to complete the installation, resulting from the installer ceasing to trade.

For consumers who have paid a deposit, this situation could lead to the risk of not recovering their funds. HIES aims to aid these consumers by completing their installation for the outstanding contract value, with GivEnergy providing their battery and inverter products at cost.

Faisal Hussain, HIES Chief Executive, notes, “It is unfortunate when a member ceases trading as it could create uncertainty for consumers and potentially harm the reputation of our industry. We have been working behind the scenes to find solutions to ensure consumers who have used a member and are unable to recover their monies receive a completed solar or battery installation. GivEnergy should be commended for stepping forward to help consumers with their solar and battery installation by supplying the products at cost.”

Jason Howlett, Chief Executive Officer of GivEnergy, adds, “It’s our mission to empower energy freedom for all. When we learned that homeowners had paid deposits for future work unlikely to be undertaken, we wanted to help. We’re proud to collaborate with HIES to ensure those affected by their installer’s cessation of trading receive the assistance they deserve. We’re dedicated to the industry’s integrity and the well-being of consumers.”

HIES and GivEnergy have already assisted many consumers who faced the potential loss of their deposit without a solar or battery system.

HIES consumer, Mr. Moran, comments, “HIES rescued us from losing thousands in deposits, getting the work done as described. Always pick an HIES member for protection.”

Another HIES consumer, Mr. Meade, recommends installers underwritten by HIES to friends and family. He appreciates HIES’s intervention in addressing solar panel deficits and GivEnergy’s assistance in averting potential deposit losses.

And another HIES consumer, Mr. Dunn, appreciates HIES’s commitment to representing and protecting consumers.

Faisal Hussain encourages other manufacturers to provide support by offering their products at cost. He emphasises the continued growth of the solar industry and the importance of ensuring positive consumer experiences to protect the industry’s reputation.

Manufacturers and distributors of solar panels and batteries looking to assist can contact HIES via email at service@hiesscheme.org.uk to pledge their support.
