would go with with my battery and heat pump

Edward 7 May 2025 - 20:10

I’m getting a heat pump installed soon – now a lot better informed thanks to Mars and the RHH youtube podcasts. Solar seems ideal for covering base load during the day – especially if it’s free! But solar + battery is probably better still.

Caroline 7 May 2025 - 21:35

It would save me money and stop me being so worried about energy bills. It would make me feel a little more self sufficient. It would be my tiny bit towards decarbonisation.

S Parmar 8 May 2025 - 09:08

This would help so much from a financial point of view with bills going through the roof and struggling to find a job – would be a great win

wayne 8 May 2025 - 09:35

my electric bills are going insane would be nice to have a bit of a reprieve

It would ease my worries on energy usage and be beneficial to the planet

Wayne Lee 8 May 2025 - 10:43

Reduced Electricity Bills

  • My home will generate its own electricity, reducing reliance on the grid.
  • During daylight hours, I can use the electricity the panels produce, potentially lowering my bills substantially—especially in sunny months.

Energy Independence

  • I will become less dependent on my utility provider, which can shield me from price increases.
  • In some setups (especially with batteries), I may have partial or full backup during power outages.

Home Energy Profile Shifts

  • I may start timing energy-intensive tasks (laundry, dishwasher) during the day to use free solar power.
  • A smart meter or solar monitoring app can help track usage and optimize savings.

Environmental Impact

  • My home’s carbon footprint will decrease since I’ll be using clean, renewable energy.
  • This supports broader sustainability goals and may improve my home’s appeal to eco-conscious buyers.

Changes to My Property

  • Roof-mounted panels are the most common and visible change.
  • I’ll need a suitable, unshaded roof area—ideally south-facing (in the Northern Hemisphere).
  • Some systems may also require inverters, battery storage units, or updated electrical panels, typically installed in garages or utility rooms.

Clare L Kendrick 15 May 2025 - 17:09

I would love the opportunity to save money and contribute to lessening the impact on the environment but money is just so tight, so giving people the opportunity to win this is awesome, thankyou.

zaphy42 16 May 2025 - 00:58

I got a couple of quotes for solar panels. several years ago, but the cost of scaffolding was almost as much as the panels themselves, and there’s nothing much that’s special about our house or the roof. That put me off at the time, I’d love solar panels to reduce our electricity bill and do our bit for the environment, but I like to add battery storage and a heat pump as well ideally.

Gilbert 16 May 2025 - 11:30

Will go with with my new heat pump

Jess Port 17 May 2025 - 16:22

This would be a really great start to a green energy transition for our home- reduced bills an added bonus! It would also be a good nudge towards upgrading to an EV (long-planned but delayed by financial constraints!)

DowallyDrifter 18 May 2025 - 20:14

Solar would reduce running costs for our new heat pump, especially during a Scottish summer.

Frank Davidson 18 May 2025 - 20:45

I wouldn’t make hasty decisions from the outset. I’d use the open pulse meter connections on my current meter to log electricity usage also keep a paper log of what is being used when. From there I’d work out an grid-saving strategy e.g. shower / batch cook / vacuum/ boil water at solar peaks. I’d then consider battery packs / Powerwall.

S chapman 19 May 2025 - 21:44

We’d be able to charge the electric car from the panels – free driving!

I would use solar to charge my EV and perhaps have a home battery installed too

sandvika 15 June 2025 - 18:56

I’ve had my heat pump 3 months and despite being very well prepared, it was not implemented as agreed and the performance is terrible. Thanks to Renewable Heating Hub and Home Assistant, I’m capturing all the pertinent measurements needed to hold the installer and manufacturer to account.

I’m now looking for solar and battery to slash my operating costs, and as if tempting fate, my existing solar inverter packed up and my original installer demands a king’s ransom for a call out to enable a warranty claim. Lots of lessons learned already!

Amanda Johnson 15 June 2025 - 19:37

It would hopefully make the grown up kids be a bit more considerate about their usage.

Joanne thomas 16 June 2025 - 12:53

It wouldn’t change my use but it would reduce my bills.

Claire 18 June 2025 - 20:01

We live in a small village which does experience power outages. With our home having a south facing roof it is perfect for solar panels, to help become more self-sufficient and reduce our energy bills. It would also help reduce our impact on the environment and our carbon footprint which is so vitally important. All positives, no negatives, especially with the additional option of having a battery.

craigfromuk 18 June 2025 - 23:18

If I won the giveaway and had a solar PV installed, it would change my home in the sense I could be more self sufficient and know what energy I may be using. It may mean I limit my energy use also.
