Resideo T6R Wireless Smart Thermostat

We recently installed a Resideo T6R Wireless Smart Thermostat to put it through its paces. Before we dive into our hands-on experience, let’s clear up a common point of confusion: yes, the T6R is a Resideo (Honeywell Home) product, formerly under the Honeywell Lyric brand. It’s part of their established T6 line.

So, how does this smart thermostat hold up day-to-day? We break down the setup, features and performance to help you decide if it’s the right upgrade for your home.

First Impressions & Setup: Modern, Professional, and (Mostly) Straightforward

Unboxing the T6R reveals a clean, modern and unobtrusive unit. You get the thermostat head (for wall or tabletop use) and a receiver (relay) box with wiring modules. A standout feature for installers is the flip-up terminal bar, which makes wiring significantly easier.

A quick compatibility note: The T6R supports 24-230 V on/off or OpenTherm control for modulating boilers, as well as zone valves.

The initial setup, pairing, connecting to WiFi and binding to the Resideo app, is fairly guided but the process took us several times to complete because it wasn’t fluid and kept hanging. Apparently this has been addressed on the newer units.

Daily Use, Features & Performance: Reliable Control with Smart Perks

In daily operation, the T6R proved reliable for controlling our single-zone heating system. The scheduling is flexible, allowing for up to six temperature periods per day, and it’s really quick and easy to do. You can also adjust temperatures and hot water from the panel itself.

The geofencing function, which uses your smartphone’s location to adjust heating when you leave and return, worked well for the most part.

The thermostat itself is a pleasure to use. The display is crisp with a dynamic text line, and manual overrides for temporary temperature changes are intuitive.

In our day-to-day use, it held temperature within 0.5C which is perfectly adequate for home comfort.

After a few weeks of usage, our verdict is that the T6R wireless thermostat is a solid, reliable option for a single-zone heating system, particularly if you value smart control and remote access.

It might not feature the predictive learning or detailed analytics of more premium competitors, but it delivers on its core promise in a straightforward way.

If your system is compatible (24–230 V / OpenTherm) and you are satisfied with single-zone control, the T6R is a worthwhile and capable upgrade over a conventional thermostat
