Gardening; cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes
Posted by: @jancoldSadly my some of my hops have suffered mainly the chinook with a black mildew which has not affected the others thank goodness. Yes I'm a brewer
I've also been brewing in the name of sustainability 😉 and our hops has been remarkably good this. What do you brew?
I've largely been making lagers for the past few years. For anyone else interested here on the forums that might have a bash at home brewing, in small batches, here's a video:

Off topic, but how does one get a YouTube video here. I ended up with just a URL when I tried.
@editor I have been growing Cascade, Chinook,Magnum, Santiam and Challenger. In 2022 they did so well I got 4Kg of dried hops, I can't drink that much beer so gave 2Kg away! I do all grain brews with maris otter barley that I mill myself and use Beersmith 3 to design the brew, well basically balance the bitterness and colour. My hops make decent beer but nothing like the fancy cloudy ones but then at around 50p a pint I'm not complaining!
One concern I have when the heat pump is in will be scheduling the 4.5Kw element I use when brewing.
Winexpert kits are very good, I find as well, and very straightforward to ferment.
Tomatoes and runner beans have been enjoying the warm weather down south this last week or two. Lucky to have enough sun and mild temperature that we can do without a greenhouse.

Loving those raised beds, @gunboatdiplomat. We have some very similar in our garden, but what we don't have is the tidiness in between. Uncluttered we are not.

@jancold Well, my Hunter French climbing beans are just reaching the ‘aphid magnet’ stage (😒) so I would like to see some Ladybirds regardless of their spots count. 😉 Regards, Toodles.
