When its cycled off mine sometimes seems to show a target flow temp that is less than the 'on' target.

I have occasionally wondered why and speculated that it is to do with the energy integral calculations, but haven't bothered to look into it in detail because Im warm for a reasonable cost so have some limits on my interest in reverse engineering!.

In scrolling through the menu, what I don’t understand is the “Target Flow temperature” which is showing 26C. With the HC set at 0.4 and an outside T of 6C, the curve suggests a temperature of about 32C. The HC is currently controlling the system so I would have expected the “Target Flow Temp” to be as per the HC. Any explanations? What am I not understanding?

I have queries on my flow temperature which are not dissimilar to yours. I have been wondering why my flow temperature seems low when compared with the anticipated temperature from the heat curve. What I haven’t done, and will, is check against the controller.

It will be interesting to see what your controller says.

Your status screen shot gives system pressure at 1.5bar. I don’t have that shown - see my photo below. Further, my HC is set at 0.4 suggesting the flow should be about 33 not the 30 shown. My flow T is nearly always below what the HC suggests and I don’t understand why.

Re the system pressure, have you got the latest version of the app?
It looks like you are seeing the same discrepancy as me.

where the temperature gauge is mounted. I assume on the external unit within the casing?

It's on a backup heater that is in-line with the system and located in the plant room.

@jamespa Thanks James, that is really helpful. Can I assume that, by monitoring the power used in the status tab, I know the defrost cycle is actually doing the defrost. 22W is the power taken by my pump. After that the power use will ramp up so reheating everything and the flow temp should be at the level dictated by the HC?

Yes in principle, but its quite difficult to monitor this way because you cant see trends Also Im not sure the delay between what the app reads and the outside world and the frequency with which the app updates. Live monitor is real time so that may be better. It takes a while for the FT to recover, 10-20mins.

If you want to look at things in this way you really need some monitoring that presents the results as a time graph. Home Assistant is the cheapest way, the only hardware needed is a computer (eg a raspberry pi) to run it on. The OpenEnergyMonitor hardware is an alternative and more comprehensive, but quite expensive and for most people unnecessary.
