I have a Gen 6 and run it very successfully using the Samsung controller. You can see my stats in the link below

as @old_scientist says. It needs to be positioned in the main living area so that it can measure the temperature there. Moving it is easy with some twin core screened cable. Many users would agree this is the best way to run it.

Running it like a conventional heating system will be expensive. It needs to be set up for weather compensation (water law in Samsungese).

I have a Samsung Gen6 and mine was installed with a 3rd party room thermostat, so that is what I use. I find it very convenient.

However, I know you can use it without a separate room thermostat, using the Samsung control panel, but I think for that to be genuinely useful, the control panel needs to be installed in a sensible location to read the room temp. Ours is on the front of the DHW tank in a cupboard hence the external 3rd party room thermostat. Others do run their Samsung's in the way you describe, so hopefully someone can offer advice.

If you happen to have the same wireless receiver as shown in the link above wired into your system, maybe you could buy a replacement (they are about £60) and just pair the new room thermostat with the wireless receiver - no wiring required and full functionality restored, or replace the existing wireless receiver.

Hi there, my son has just moved into a house which has a Samsung Gen6 heat pump installed. its a new install but not been used for a couple of years as the house was being renovated before he bought it. We had a bit of trouble getting it working as someone has lost the wireless thermostat so we had to program the Samsung controller to work without an external thermostat. We also had to switch the receiver of the wireless thermostat permanently on otherwise the system would not run the pumps to the rads. Its up and running and they have hot water and heating but setup looks extremely complicated - we are running like a conventional heating system at the moment just to keep them warm.

So I have 3 main questions -

Can they continue to run the system with the Samsung controller set to have no external thermostat and keep the receiver for the wireless thermostat constantly on (demanding heat) or do we need to re-wire and remove the wireless thermostat receiver.

Should we replace the wireless thermostat and reprogram the system for use with external thermostat?

How should the system be programmed for most efficient use - it seems a bit of a minefield - some help would be brilliant. They do have a small solar array of 6 panels.
