I have read threads on this forum and know there is knowledge of V2H etc etc within the community. I am also aware that the technologies are developing quite fast and some of the electrical stuff is a bit beyond me. That said I am interested in views on how the technology and regulations are developing and potential for adoption in my situation.

Our house has a 3.5kW ASHP and finally a working smart meter. Our second vehicle is dying (K reg Golf) and won’t go past the MOT in September. We live on an island so most of our driving is quite short distances. An EV would make some sense. We currently have no battery storage of any sort. Ideally I would like to use a time of use tariff to charge the car and use that energy during the day to power the house - when the vehicle is not in use. Our house typically uses max 10 to 15kWhrs a day. Is the concept of pursuing V2H a logical direction to go and should that influence our choice of EV if we buy one now - or should we wait a few more months or years?

Hello can anybody advise please..this may be a silly question as I'm not familiar with the workings of the inverter. We have 11 panels installed avout 4.84kw) S Solax X1-Boost-G4 invertor. No Battery. No contract to sell back into the grid. I use the Solax Cloud app to monitor performance. On a good day I might get about 18kw solar output. The app also tells me that the domestic consumption is exactly the same. Does this simply mean that every bit of solar power produced has been used in our house? On a bad day the Solar Output is way down but according to the app so is domestic consumption. Does the inverter juggle between power sources and prioritise solar power use over electricity from the grid?

Rather than a 52°, use 35° followed by 45° and finally 52°

Do modern heatpumps already heat the water automatically in this manner, or just whack output temp straight up to the required temp

I guess stop starts would negate any gain. However if the first schedule would normally complete after 50 minutes, simply set the second schedule to start around the 40 to 45 minute mark...

It's easy for social media to warp perception and I only know one person in real life with one. He thinks it's great because he's spent umpteen thou on it (with PV and batteries), but then shows me all the mistakes his plumber made fitting it. The house isn't very warm, install looks awful, house is uninsulated.

When you read online some say they are overjoyed. You ask how long have they had it and they say a month, that month being April.

Or that they got it for free, yesterday. It's a £500 Chinese unit with a 1yr warranty.

Maybe it cost £30k so therefore I am entitled to be happy no matter what. ROI of 20yrs by which time it'll be clapped out and need replacing and have £10k spent on servicing and other faults.

So I hit Google with 'how many are happy?' 79 to 94% came the reply which sounds very positive.

I reversed the question and got "15% to 20% of owners report being unhappy or frustrated" which is different, but not far off really.

I was sent a survey to fill in about my new install. I'd never had one.

Are the aforementioned people the ones being asked in the surveys?

I watched a video where an Irish vendor said that their customers complained their electric bills had gone up massively. He then asked about the gas bills and they said 'What gas bill? We don't have one anymore.'

So do you think that some 80% have genuinely had a better system than a new, properly specced and fitted gas combi would have given them?

I'm not interested in your opinion of your system, you form an extreme minority. What about the majority of ASHP owners? Are they really happy and how would we know? Is there a way of finding out?

I doubt it, but would be really interested to find out.
