The advantage being that the unit is in the sun for most of the year (morning sun) so any chance of a bit of extra heat in the air might offset a bit of the heat loss through the pipes. Thanks for your help.

The heat loss differs depending on the pipe diameter (and flow temperature, presumably). Here are some of the numbers I could find:

15mm 7.89 W/m
22mm 9.12 W/m
28mm 10.07 W/m
35mm 11.08 W/m

This will be on the flow and return pipes so if it is 4 metres away from the house it would be 8 linear metres - still relatively low.

Thanks for the video. The important sentence was that external pipework in the insulating tube loses 7watts of heat per linear metre. Making the loss on my pump 28 watts. Not a figure to lose sleep over. Thank you.

I will have to guess that it will be 45C in the depths of winter but it is more complicated than just a new install.
I intend to heat part of my house, 60sq meters, which has two ufh rooms and a large radiator, and that's it. The heat loss is about 4.5Kw.

Frost pockets are never a good idea!

What water flow temperature do you propose at what external air temperature? That us needed for the heat loss calculation.

I can install a 5kW Samsung heat pump close to the house but the position is a frost hollow. It never gets a sight of the sun and the air it is drawing in is cold. Or I can position the unit about 3 or 4 metres away where it will get the winter sun so the coldest air may be a degree or two warmer.

The question is how much heat will be lost flowing through the 4 metres of pipe between the heat pump and the house? I intend to heavily insulate the pipes, i.e. much more than just the black wrappers.
