UPDATE

Heat pump now installed Kosner MD12 monobloc. Turns out to be a Milea M Thermal. 10 year warranty clinched the deal.

Installed with 60ltr water transfer tank, no circuit water ever enters the unit.

Have changed some weather compensation setting as follows:

@ 2c outside floor temp should be 38c

@ 22c outside floor temp should be 33c

Room temp 24c

These settings are to force the unit to run during daytime when I am generating solar power. My installer considers me to be crazy, but I have a warm house that is only losing 2 degrees overnight and costing pennies to run. We are now entering wintertime here with freezing temperatures of 12c overnight lol.

Anyone see anything wrong with what I've done please let me know as always open to suggestions.

It's a bit more complicated than that but you get the idea. BTW my ASHP rarely if ever uses more than 3kW (UK).

I'm not sure about using the same unit to cool. As Mars says you could have A2A units for that.

Do you already have a wet CH system installed?

An option here, if possible, would be go with an air-to-air heat pump (as opposed to air to water) that would heat in the winter and cool in the summer using your solar PV?

As far as DIYing the system is concerned, with the right amount of research relating to unit you opt for, that is very possible and we've been in touch with many DIY installations that have been a success.

Hello everyone,

Considering installing ashp in my villa which is in Costa Blanc Spain.

At the moment I have a gas combi boiler on LPG which costs a fortune to run my ufh, LPG is not cheap in Spain at 2.30 euros a kilo. I have solar panels giving 4.5Kw peak on most day's of the year. Looking at ashp to run ufh only with a 200l buffer tank with mixing valve to top up heating when not generating power from solar. Pump would only run approx 4 months of the year, excess solar would be used for cooling in summer. Looking at 12Kw heat pump to heat 210sqm living space I have cavity walls and insulated loft space, winter temperatures very rarely go below +5c and with ufh I only loose 2 degrees overnight.

First question, would this type of system warrant the initial outlay. LPG used last year cost approx 2200€ and is going up in price daily.

Second question. I have enough knowledge of central heating installations (the basic plumbing)that I would like to attempt a DIY install, problem is system design, any help appreciated.

That's it for now, willing to answer any questions that are required.
